Unfortunately due to being out at Rethinking ICT I was unable to attend the E2BN conference (just too many fantastic things happening at once) however, I was slightly early so I did manage to sneak into the end of a Raspberry Pi session. There were some absolutely fab ideas for using Raspberry Pi’s from a group of scouts who had used it to move a remote control car with brainwaves. Having been in the session for just a few minutes I already wanted to get a Raspberry Pi for myself; I think that this could be a great tool to use in school especially as a G&T resource.
Anyway next it was the start of the TeachMeet and unfortunately a lot of people from the conference had to dash home but there were still a nice group of us left. There were many app recommendations including ‘Little things’ an app where there are many objects and you must hunt; there was a suggestion that this could be used to encourage children’s oral description skills. ‘Pic collage’ can be used in many ways from sequencing instructions in EYFS to making a visual French/English dictionary. Finally there was Videolicious which is a free app for incorporating pics, video and speech/music it also has some cool effects.
Sheili Blackburn (@SheiliBB) suggested that there are some brilliant apps for blogging including the Blogger app which means that children can post the blog from wherever you are and then it will post once more when it finds Wifi. She also suggested using AudioBoo as an app which means you can easily embed audio onto a blog.
As always the TeachMeet atmosphere was enjoyable with many light-hearted conversations and sharing of ideas.
